Margrit von Braun
Margrit von Braun is an environmental engineer, working in the areas of hazardous waste management and risk assessment. She served on the faculty at the University of Idaho (UI) for 31 years, where she directed the Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering programs and served as dean of the College of Graduate Studies. Margrit is a Fellow of the Collegium Ramazzini, an independent, international academy comprised of 180 international experts in the fields of occupational and environmental health.
She and her husband, Ian von Lindern, founded an environmental engineering company focused on remediation of hazardous waste sites, particularly in mining districts. Since retiring from UI and selling their company, Margrit and Ian have flunked retirement spectacularly! They founded a non-profit 501(c)(3), TerraGraphics International Foundation (TIFO), assisting communities in reducing their environmental exposures, often in partnership with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders).
Margrit’s engineering degrees include a bachelor’s from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a master’s from the University of Idaho and a doctorate from Washington State University.
Margrit was born in Huntsville, AL and has fond memories of growing up in the town that took us to the Moon.
